My Control Panel - Details of Last Visitors ^^ (Just taken few minutes ago)


I don't know when did he link me to his site and I wanted to thank him
for his free service but I seems like I'm too useless to do anything for him.. x.x

So, I've just asked him a few questions that I think lots of
people would be interested to know and here they are!

***** Q&A Started *****

1) What made you eager/interested to start a site which
provides free counter to websites all around the world?
At the beginning, I wanted to place a counter on my personal web site
but without boring ads and pop-up ! Not always easy to find...
So I decided to create my personal counter service (just for me in the first time).
My inspiration come from an application named "Domino Counter"
(http://www.rhizomatics.org.uk/software/domcount.html/) that runs on
enterprise email server 'IBM Lotus Domino'. I know this environment very
well because I am a Lotus Domino administrator in my company (my job).
I developed Domino Counter with PHP and MySQL for the database.
During the development I told me it would be great to offer this service to everyone :-)
The goal was to create an easy, simple service with a lot of original counter styles.
For the name 'Domino Counter' not very original because I kept the name
of the application from Rhizomatics (but I like it). Today, I am very happy to
offer counters to everyone and my pleasure is to visit the sites of my members :-)

2) Domino Counter's Birthdate is really on 01/01/2002?
Not exactly but it is difficult to remind me the real date because there
were several steps with Domino Counter. I can't remember if it was before
2002 or in 2002 and this is the reason I set the date to 01/01/2002.

3) How was it like when you're just started? Do you have any
difficulties running the site, dealing with errors, etc?
The first time Domino Counter appears on the web, it was hosted on my personal
PC and runs on Lotus Domino !!! The connection to the web was my ADSL connection
(very slow and not very reliable). This period was short : several months only. After
I re-developed completly the service with PHP and MySQL because it is free and
faster. Now, Domino Counter is hosted on a dedicated server and it is faster ;-)

4) Do you have any aims and anyone to thank?
One day, I will try to host Domino Counter on another dedicated server (more powerful)
because I have more and more members and the charge/load is important sometime.
I want to thank you all the Domino Counter users and the artists who create graphic
counters for me. 22 % of the Domino Counter visitors come from Malaysia and Singapore.
I am waiting for Malaysia or Singapore artists, it would be great to get some counters styles
from us ;-) It is very easy to create a counter : create 10 little images in GIF format and send
me it (see the FAQ for the details).
